Frequently Asked Questions

We offer the following questions and answers to help you explore your options with us.  The questions are for general purposes and highlight what are many first time patients' concerns.

Why are the dental treatments with Dr. Talamantes so affordable compared to the expense of similar treatment in the U.S.?

Several simple reasons: Dramatically lower overhead, much less expensive staff labor, and Dr. Talamantes' personal desire to help patients afford excellent dental care.

I have heard of going to Mexico for dental and medical treatment but don't speak Spanish.  How will I communicate?

Dr. Talamantes and her staff speak fluent English.  They will happily communicate in either English or Spanish.

Does Dr. Talamantes follow U.S. dental practice sterilization/infection control methods?

Yes.  She insists on the same standards of infection control as U.S. dental offices.

Does Dr. Talamantes have a list of patient references that I could view?

Patients regularly send Dr. Talamantes emails/cards of gratitude and have even mentioned her in blogs or on other websites.  We will gladly provide references if you request them.

I have pre-exisiting health problems.  How will Dr. Talamantes manage a patient like me?

Dr. Talamantes begins every patient treatment by recording fully their medical history.  After the collection of this data at the first appointment (and/or before by phone), she will contact your regular physician if necessary and consult with them regarding treatments and/or prescription drug effects.  The results and recomendations of this research/consultation will be discussed with you at length.  By following this dental/medical protocol your health and well-being is managed and becomes a part of your treatment plan.

Is Dr. Talamantes available during the office's regular hours?

As of August, 2009 Dr. Talamantes schedules appointments for patients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.  However, she will make every effort to accomodate patients who need an appointment at a different day and time than those times available from the aforementioned regular schedule.  Be sure to ask for specifically for Dr. Talamantes when making your appointment!

Is Acuna safe?

Acuna is often refered to as a safe border city.  Although no one in any country can guarantee a visitor's safety it must be mentioned that Acuna has not experienced problems like those in the news in other far away bordertowns (Juarez, Tijuana).  Acuna's tranquil nature is evident in the fact that the city co-hosted the Lubbock, Texas based Port-to-Plains Summit in October, 2008 (click here for info).  The city also welcomes visitors regularly to such events as the George Paul Memorial Bullriding party, Running of Las Vacas, and Amistad Lake related tournamants.  Click here for more about Acuna/Del Rio tourism.  ***As of 5/15/09 the U.S. State Department is no longer advising Americans to avoid non-essential travel to Mexico because of swine flu concerns (click here for info).***

Does Dr. Talamantes do braces?

Dr. Talamantes does not do braces but we will gladly help you find a reputable braces specialist in Acuna if she determines that you need them.

How will I know if my dental insurance will reimburse me?

Any questions about insurance reimbursement should be brought to Dr. Talamantes' attention during the preliminary visit so we can find out and plan accordingly with you.

When does the U.S. Passport law take effect?

The U.S. Department of State lists June 1, 2009 as the date when all U.S. citizens will need either a Passport Book or Passport Card to return to the U.S. from Mexico.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, and Visa or Mastercard.  All charges are in U.S. dollars.

Does Dr. Talamantes use dental treatment material from dental supply companies in the U.S.?

Yes.  Dr. Talamantes currently purchases most of her dental treatment material from the best U.S. suppliers.  She also maintains accounts with highly regarded Mexican supply companies.

Are there discounts for special categories (teachers, senior citizens, law enforcement, etc.)?
